The European Consumer Centre of Greece (ECC-Greece) was first launched in 2005, under the auspices of the General Consumer Secretariat of former Ministry of Development and Competitiveness.
As from 1-1-2012, ECC-Greece has been operating under the auspices and with the support of the Hellenic Consumer Ombudsman, an Independent Authority of the public sector mandated with the out-of-court consensual settlement of consumer disputes.
Operation of ECC-Greece is also foreseen in article 22 of Law 3844/2010 (incorporation of Directive 2006/123/EC) as contact point for providing information to consumers as regards:
• The requirements applicable relating to consumer protection.
• The means of redress available in the case of a dispute between a trader and a consumer.
• The contact details of associations or organisations, from which consumers may obtain practical assistance.
Additionally, as from 9-1-2016, ECC-Greece will be contact point for the out-of-court resolution of disputes concerning contractual obligations stemming from online sales or service contracts between a consumer resident in the EU and a trader established in the Union.
